Rachael L Sweeney

Assistant Clinical Professor
Dr. Rachael Sweeney joined the Auburn University College of Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner program in Spring 2019 as an Assistant Clinical Professor. She currently serves as the Family Nurse Practitioner Program Coordinator, with leadership responsibilities across didactic instruction, simulation-based education, and clinical training environments. Dr. Sweeney earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing with an Emergency Nurse Practitioner focus at Vanderbilt University, where she also earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. With more than 22 years of experience in emergency and acute care, Dr. Sweeney’s clinical career began as an EMT and progressed through roles as an emergency department nurse, flight nurse, and now Emergency Nurse Practitioner. In addition to her emergency medicine background, she has provided care to pediatric patients with complex acute and chronic healthcare needs in the home setting. Dr. Sweeney currently serves as the Georgia co-representative for the American Academy of Emergency Nurse Practitioners. Her scholarly and outreach interests focus on simulation and OSCE development in graduate NP education and advancing care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
